Northern Lakes Worm Farm is owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Steve and Jeanne Landwehr. We are located in the great northwoods of Northern Minnesota in the small town of Embarrass. We got started in the business because it fit so well with our hobbies – gardening and fishing.
Our first experience using worm castings was before we decided to get into the worm business. We have grown houseplants for many years and felt we were always somewhat successful at it. We did, however, always have a problem getting our African Violets to bloom on a regular basis regardless of the brand of fertilizer we tried. So, the first plant we tried the worm castings on was one of our African Violets. We simply applied a thin layer to the top of the plant, worked it into the soil lightly and watered from the top. To our amazement, after about 2 weeks, our violet was covered in flower buds and with additional applications of worm castings about every 2 months, our African Violet looks like this the majority of the time. We have since been using worm castings on all our houseplants Once we saw the effect of using worm castings on our houseplants, we decided to get into the worm casting business ourselves. We hope that you will try some in your own garden - your plants will be happy you did!
